During Your Stay

Transit & Navigation Apps:

  • Mobilly (mobilly.lv): Use this app to purchase public transport tickets (buses, trams, trains) and check schedules

  • Bolt (bolt.eu): For ride-hailing and e-scooters, Bolt is very popular in Rīga.

  • Navigation: Google Maps are great for real-time transit routes and directions.

General Tips

On Foot:

You’re staying in the heart of the city – walking is the best way to soak in the atmosphere. Old Town, the parks, and many eateries are within a 5–15 minute walk. Streets are safe day and night.

Public Transport:

Riga has buses, trams, and trolleybuses that reach all parts of the city. The nearest public transport stop is “Autoosta” (Central Bus Station), about 5-10 minutes away, and “Rīgas Centrālā Stacija” (Central Railway Station), 5 minutes away – both major hubs. From the central station you can also take trains/buses to other Latvian cities (Jūrmala beach is a 30 min train ride) or even international trains to Lithuania/Estonia. If you fancy a day trip by train, it’s very accessible. The easiest way to get train tickets are through the Mobilly app.

Tickets:

You can buy single-ride e-tickets (called “e-talons”) at any Narvesen kiosk or ticket machine (including one in the Origo station) or through the Mobilly app (recommended/easiest way). For public transport around Riga - a single ride is about €1.50 if bought in advance (or €2 if you pay cash to the driver). Validate the e-ticket when you board. A 24 hour ticket costs €5 (3-day ticket costs €8, 5-day ticket costs $10).

Taxi / Ride-hailing: The most popular ride-hailing service here is Bolt (similar to Uber). We highly recommend using the Bolt app for convenient rides – it’s affordable and usually arrives within minutes. Typical fare across downtown is €3–€5 (up to possibly ~€10 during busy/night hours). Traditional taxis are also around (e.g. Red Cab, Baltic Taxi) – however, tend to be more expensive & less reliable. Bolt tends to be easier and with transparent pricing.

Bicycles & Scooters:

In summer months, you’ll see electric scooters for rent (like Bolt scooters) around town – you can unlock them via the Bolt app for a quick ride. There are also SIXT bike rentals available - cycling along the river or to Mežaparks can be a nice adventure.

Other Useful Tips:

  • Taxis: Use the Bolt ride-hailing app for reliable and reasonably priced taxis.

  • Reviews & Recommendations: TripAdvisor and Google reviews are handy for up-to-date reviews on restaurants, cafés, and local attractions.

  • Local Etiquette: Riga is generally safe and friendly; however, always keep an eye on your belongings in crowded places, and don’t hesitate to ask locals for recommendations—they’re usually happy to help.

Airport Transfer:

Rīga International Airport (RIX) is ~20-25 minutes away by car. Bolt or taxi from the apartment to the airport costs around €15–€20. There’s also a convenient bus: Bus #22 runs between the airport and city center. You can catch it at the “13. janvāra iela” stop (10 min walk) and it costs €2 (buy a ticket from driver or use the app). It runs roughly every 15-20 minutes from early morning until late night.

Parking:

As mentioned, if you have a car, street parking in the center is paid Mon–Sat. There are several parking garages nearby for longer parking.

Google maps typically shows most of the parking lots (Most parking lots will be owned by Europark & you can find them and their pricing at europark.lv). Nearby parking lot addresses (all can be paid for through the Europark app):

Best options (depending on price/location):

ORIGO (closest shopping mall, ~200-300m away) - 14 EUR per day

E.Birznieka-Upīša 21a (around ~600m away) - 6.75 EUR per day

Other options:

Satekles 1e (around ~500 meters away) - 7 EUR per day

A. Čaka 29 (around ~400 meters away) - 12 EUR per day

Dzirnavu 78/80 (300-400m away) - 17.50 EUR per day

Elizabete Hotel (300-400 meters away) - 18 EUR per day

Dzirnavu street 111 (around ~300-400 meters away) - 10 EUR per day

Satekles 1, k-1 (around ~300-400 meters away) - 9 EUR per day

Public parking is almost on any street around the parking if you need to leave for a couple of hours, but then it is very expensive (typically >2 Eur per hour, depending on the parking zone).

Paid parking in Riga is from 8AM to 8PM (Monday to Friday), 8AM to 5PM (Saturday) and free on Sundays.

For parking on the side of the streets - you can find information about parking zones & their pricing on the Rigas Satiksme website.

Rīga is a very walkable city, and many attractions are just minutes from the apartment. But when you want to venture further, here’s how to get around easily

Safety & Emergency Information

Your safety is very important to us. Here is some useful information in case of emergency (which we don’t anticipate, but just in case):

  • Emergency Numbers: In Latvia, dial 112 for any emergency (ambulance, fire, police – this is the general EU emergency number). For specific services, you can also dial 110 for police, 113 for ambulance/medical, and 112 for fire brigade (112 will reach all).

  • Nearest Hospital: The closest emergency hospital is Pauls Stradiņš Clinical University Hospital, located at Pilsoņu iela 13 (~10 minutes drive). For minor issues, the nearest medical clinic is ARS Medical Center on Skolas iela 5 (~5 minutes drive).

  • Pharmacy: The nearest pharmacy (“aptieka”) is Mēness Aptieka, on Merķeļa iela 11, just 2 minutes walk around the corner.

  • Fire Extinguisher: There is a fire extinguisher in the hallway and first aid kit in the apartment for your safety. The first aid kit is in the bathroom cabinet (top shelf) with bandages, antiseptic, and basic supplies.

  • Smoke Detectors: The apartment is equipped with smoke detectors (in the hallway and bedroom). They are checked regularly. If you hear a loud alarm sound, please exit the apartment immediately and follow the building evacuation route.

  • Secure Building: The main door is locked 24/7 and only residents have the code or key.

Rest assured, Rīga is a very safe city and our neighborhood is well-lit and secure. This information is here just for your peace of mind. Please familiarize yourself with the safety features and don’t hesitate to ask if you have any concerns.
